ABOUT ME

I am Associate Professor in the Discrete Technology & Production Automation (DTPA) group of the Engineering and Technology institute Groningen (ENTEG), Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. I am also Visiting Professor  of the Hiroshima University, Japan. I am also the Twin Transition Coordinator for the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society, Technology and AI, and the Wubbo Ockels School for Energy and Climate.

From 2021 to 2024, I was Assistant Professor at the University of Pavia.

From 2017 to 2020, I was Postdoc in the DTPA group of the University of Groningen.

I received the PhD degree (with the highest evaluation) from the University of Pavia in 2018 in the field of Systems and Control. My PhD thesis was entitled: "Design and Analysis of Sliding Mode Control Algorithms for Power Networks". As visiting PhD student, from April 2016 to June 2016, and from February 2017 to March 2017 I was with the Johann Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Groningen.

I received the Master degree (cum laude) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia in 2014. My thesis was developed in the Process Control Lab at the University of Pavia in the field of Systems and Control. My Master thesis was entitled: "Sliding Mode Control for Microgrids''.

I received the Bachelor degree (cum laude) in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pavia in 2012. My thesis was developed in partnership with MCM Energy Lab, spin-off from the Polytechnic of Milan, in the field of applied research in renewable energy. My Bachelor thesis was entitled: "Micro Hydro Power Plants for Energy Recovery in Water Distribution Network''.

My research activities focus on nonlinear control with application to the energy domain and smart, complex systems. I have (co-)authored the book Advanced and Optimization Based Sliding Mode Control: Theory and ApplicationsSIAM, 2019.

I received the following awards:
